Ronald Charles Masson
April 26, 1947 – December 5, 2019
We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Ronald Charles Joseph Masson, age 72, passed away at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, on December 5th, 2019. Ron was born on April 26th, 1947, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. Ronald and Penelope (Oswald) married in Surrey BC, on the 24th of May 1969. Ron and Penny met through Penny’s oldest brother, Tom. Ron went to art school after completing high school, and went on to work for BCTEL, where he served 35 years. Ron was also a hockey official with CHL’s all over North America since he was 16 years of age until he was 50 years old. Ron was also well known in the Okanagan, as a carded umpire, umping with softball Canada, Fastball BC and Orthodox in Winfield BC. When Ron and Penny moved to Winfield BC in 1994, Ron became highly involved with the Winfield Curling Club, where he later became the President of the Curling club, from 2006-2014- but continued to curl with close friends and his curling family, along with working the bar during the week and always helping with installing and removing the ice. BC Tel was a long career for Ron, where he developed many long lasting friendships with peers, where he continued to be involved with the annual Father and Son- Fathers Day Fishing Derby, up at Doreen Lake, Winfield BC. He also played in Vernon on Sunday Mornings with the Telus peers where he played up until 2007 as a goalie. For anyone that knew Ron, saw he was usually always up to no good. He was always cracking jokes, talking about Fishing, Hunting, Hockey, and women. Ronald was the son of Simone (Deseau) and Father Lezar Masson (Joe). Siblings, Paul and Jenette Masson. Loving husband to Penelope (Oswald) Masson- Children; Christopher (Jenna Hodak), grandchildren- Brody (10) & Dylan (7) Masson, Jennifer Masson- (Benjamin Petrie), grandchild- Sebastien Petrie (13). Along with Brother in law- Tom Oswald, nephew Mike Oswald, niece Amanda Oswald and Cousin Brian Arki. Ron was predeceased by both parents & wife Penny of 46 years (2015), There will be a service held at a later time, and close friends and family members will be notified of the date (TBD). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canucks Autism Network, in honor of grandson. The family would like to make a special thank you to the Winfield Curling Club, the staff at Woody’s Pub, the Winfield Orthodox Softball League and fellow umpires, the staff and players at King Stadium. Thank you all Ron’s close friends and family that was always there for him. Ron will never loose that special place in our hearts.
