Denis L Subler

June 10, 1939May 20, 2018

Denis L Subler age 78, of Versailles passed away at 11:54 PM on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Village Green Nursing Home in Greenville. Denny was born June 10, 1939, in Frenchtown, Ohio to the late Pauline (Barga) and Carl J Subler. In addition to his parents, Denny was also preceded in death by a brother, Steve Subler; brothers-in-law, Hal Richters and David Baron; and a nephew, Curt Subler. Denny is survived by his wife, Nancy A Subler; daughters, Rachel (Eric) Wolfe and Ann-Marie (Doug) Kurtz; son, Fr. Carl Subler; grandchildren, Nicole & Noah Kurtz and Olson & Andrew Wolfe; brothers, Tom (Nancy) Subler & Mark (Jolene) Subler; sisters, Marilyn Richters, Kay (Darryl) Sandri & Linda (Chuck) Borchers; sisters-in-law, Charlene Subler, Devone Baron and Linda (Bucky) Gonya; step-mother, Krista Subler-Boellke; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Denny graduated from Versailles High School in 1957 then enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Following the Marines, he drove a truck for Carl Subler Trucking (CSTI). In 1964 he moved to the great state of Maine to run the CSTI terminal there. He met Nancy Davis and they were married on August 30, 1969. In 1978 he brought his family back to Versailles where he continued working in the trucking business, both for CSTI and later himself. In the early 90’s he changed direction and began selling Long Term Care Insurance. His success as a salesman enabled him to travel the world with Nancy and they enjoyed many trips to Europe and Asia. He never really retired but did slow down enough to have time to spend with his grandchildren and develop his motorcycle hobby. He loved to ride and managed to put thousands of miles on three different motorcycles driving them across the country, from Seattle to the East coast and up through Maine. He was contemplating a trip to Alaska when he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma last fall. Special thanks to the staff at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus OH; the staff of Village Green Nursing Home in Greenville for their excellent care; and especially to Lillian Bruns and her family for the extraordinary support and help they gave the family during Denny’s treatment in Columbus and afterwards. Words cannot express how thankful we are for your friendship and selflessness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 25, 2018, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Carl Subler celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with full Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard and U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.

Uncle Denny ❤️ I will always remember his positivity, his beautiful smile, bright eyes, and gentle goodness. He was always welcoming and ready to share a thought, a story, or simply listen to you. His love for Gods beautiful creation was evident in his spirit, and how he took care of things. I love that he shared his unique, and beautiful passions with others. He was a true patriot and he trusted in the Lord. We will miss you. RIP Annette Subler

Having grown up with Denny, working with him tossing watermellons to unload trucks for his dad's market, playing ball behind the dry cleaners, playing football, working together in the alumni association and kicking back for an occational beer, we go way back. I'll miss him along with so many others he, Nancy and their family befriended over the years. Denny had that charming Subler smile all the Sublers seemed to have. Such good memories.

I worked with Denny at CSTI in the 80's and found him to be a wonderful boss! He would dictate a message for me and he was always pleasant to work for! You look so much like your Dad too who was a wonderful man. RIP, Denny, and wish you had many more miles to travel on your motorcycle. My condolences to Nancy and all of your wonderful family! Hugs, Lois
