My husband Lester and I wish to express our deepest condolences. We learned of Nelson's death in this week's Policy. I remember my cousin as Jen's ornery little boy with a twinkle in his eye. Our love and sympathy to you all, Johanna Bulcher Bruns

Our condolences to the Smith Family.
We were both so blessed to have known Nelson. Myself, from growing up in Versailles and knowing the Smith Family. Peggy enjoyed working with Nelson at BASF where he always had a smile for everyone.

I first met Mr. Smith at “green-tamp” on Ft Bragg back in 2003. I am great friends with his son Jarrid. Nelson never called me by my name or even my nickname “Mack.” He always called me “Bama.” I always looked forward to seeing him whenever he’d come to NC or whenever I visited OH. He would always tell me how much it meant to him that I was there to have his son’s back when we were deployed. I know he is definitely in a better place and not suffering now and I’m sorry that I cannot be there to pay my respects in person. Love you Mr. Smith. Anchor’s Aweigh! RIP. Airborne! Go Bucks! And of course, Go Bama!

While Nelson was slightly younger than me, I felt like we grew up together. I know the Smith family well and I'm sure I drank a beer with Nelson at some point. I know we partied together several times through our younger years.. He will be missed and hopefully we can drink a brew together again someday. My sincere sympathy to the family for their loss.
