The family of Adelaide 'Miki' Simpson is saddened to announce the passing of their mother on November 5th, 2017, in Victoria, B.C. Miki was born in Digby, Nova Scotia in 1934 and lived much of her life in Alberta and BC. The youngest of three sisters, she spent her early childhood in Digby, then relocated with her family to Vernon, BC. where she attended school. She married Don Miller and lived in Victoria before moving to Germany in 1957. Later, she moved to Central Alberta and Calgary where she lived for over two decades raising her three children and working for the County of Ponoka and Hospital District 93 as a Payroll Analyst. In 1980, Miki moved to Victoria where she spent the last sixteen years of her career working with the BC Ambulance Service and enjoying her retirement.
Miki was a mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, mentor and great friend to many people and former colleagues. Her most special memories are from the many years of joy spent with her life partner Denis Young. She enjoyed tea at the Dutch Bakery, reading, gardening, playing her ukulele and travelling - especially to Hawaii. Volunteering was important to her, whether it was time spent reading with seniors at Sunrise Village, or knitting for orphans she cared for people, always looking at the positive and enjoying a great sense of humor. She was a breast cancer survivor - resilient and brave to the end, living life to the fullest.
Miki was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and loved a good game of 31 with many friends from the BC Government Employees Legion. She loved spending time with family, grandchildren and recently becoming "GiGi" to a great grandson. Miki will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Wendy Moore (Glenn) Red Deer, AB, sons Brian Miller and Kelly Miller (step grandson Riley Bennett) of Victoria, sister Marjorie Hopper, Ladner, BC, granddaughters, Tiffany Moore of Victoria, and Amanda (Jeremiah) Ankuyi and great-grandson Elikam of Accra, Ghana. Miki is predeceased by her sister Yvonne and life partner Denis Young, daughter-in-law Lavonne Schaddelee-Miller, first husband Don Miller (the father of her children) and William “Bill” Simpson. The family would like to offer our immense gratitude to Dr. Bill Shoichet for his many years of nurturing support to our Mum and the Palliative Care at Home team.
To celebrate Miki's life a memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 19th, at 2pm. First Memorial Funeral Services 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.
