Fred’s remarkable life story encompasses 96 wonderful years; a 69 year marriage to “the stunningly beautiful Isabel Howelko”; four talented daughters and an ever-expanding family; inspiring friends; exhilarating hobbies, sports, activities; exciting world travels and adventures; memorable celebrations and many joyful remembrances. A clever, creative and talented man, Fred was a soldier, WWII veteran, escapee from a POW camp, engineer, property manager, sailor, glider pilot, writer, author, singer, musician, landscaper, carpenter, mason, collector of great stories, patron of theatre and classical music, indulgent with Grandchildren and pets, and a epicurean of fine dining and a glass of scotch. Hospitable, generous, optimistic, formidable, yet without exception, a gentleman, Fred “always had something to look forward to!” In spite of his medical frailties, Fred remained positive, uncomplaining and greatly appreciative of the care he received. We can never prepare for the loss. His legacy will proudly live on through his loving family: Margaret and Rick, Kathy and Larry, Ferne, Pat and Ron, 5 grandchildren and 3 greats. “Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, Sweet Prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” His family will hold a private service at a later date.
