soulmate, Al, at the Victoria General Hospital, Victoria.
Predeceased by his parents Andy and Bess Corby of Selkirk, Al leaves to cherish his memory his wife Lynda, brother Paul and Sally Corby, Janet Corby, his sisters-in-law Diane Madill (Terry Stitt) and Sharon Madill (Wade Hartwell), his aunt Clarice Hobson (Brian), and treasured god children, nieces and nephews.
Al was a gentleman and a gentle man, bringing style, flare and grace to every part of the rich life he shared with the love of his life, his precious Lynda. He will be deeply missed and remembered for the gracious hosting of many gourmet meals that he and Lynda prepared for family and friends. He brought a special joy to those who shared holidaying in the family’s cottage at Lakeshore Heights on Lake Winnipeg. Al had a passion for fashion, gardening, art, world-wide travel, cooking, fine wine and golf. He especially enjoyed that first cup of cappuccino in the morning over his crossword puzzles. Al delighted and embraced the young people in his life – his god children, nieces and nephews, and their families’ grandchildren.
Lynda and Al made their first home in Winnipeg for 25 years. There, Al made a career as a Marketing Services Manager and Promotions Coordinator/ Sales Representative at Labatts Manitoba Brewery and then as Community Relations Manager for Manitoba Telecom Services.
Al and Lynda moved to Victoria in 2004 to escape those frigid Manitoba winters and to enjoy Al’s retirement, while being closer to family members. He and Lynda spent many weekends camping and enjoying the wonderful scenery and climate of Vancouver Island. Al also renewed his interest in painting watercolours which helped to adorn their Victoria apartment. Palm Springs became a favourite winter haven for golf and to soak up the sunshine.
The Celebration of Life will take place on December 7th from 1:00-3:00 at the The Gardens at the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific at 505 Quayle Road Victoria, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Society, the Winnipeg Humane Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Al passed away from a brain hemorrhage and his family specially thanks the medical staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and the ICU neuroscience staff at Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion. Thanks too for the outpouring of love from our family and many friends.
“To live in this world, you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.” Mary Oliver, poet.
Al, you will always be in our hearts.
