

Ann Ferreira passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023 at the Berwick Royal Oak, Victoria, BC at age 91. Born in London, England, she spent her childhood in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. After graduating from Pate’s Grammar School, Cheltenham and St. Godric’s College, Hampstead, she worked for a law office and a medical practice in London before joining the British Foreign Service in 1954. She was immediately posted to Rangoon, Burma (now Yangon, Myanmar), then Budapest, Hungary in 1956, Mexico City, Mexico in 1958, and Frankfurt, Germany in 1962. In 1963, she moved to Jamaica to work for friends who were setting up a cotton mill. There she met her husband, C. Patrick (Pat) Ferreira who was a hotelier in Kingston. They married in 1969 and moved together back to Mexico. They moved again to England in 1972, and finally to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in 1975. After Pat’s death in 1981, Ann stayed in Victoria where she enjoyed riding horses, gardening, photography, sailing, travelling with friends, and taking care of Kink, the cat with a crooked tail who she raised from a kitten.
Ann is predeceased by her husband C. Patrick Ferreira of Victoria, BC and her sister Christine Green of Cornwall, England. She will be missed by her grandson Christopher Turner of Montreal, QC, nieces and nephews, and her friends in Victoria.
A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Royal Oak on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 10 am. A donation in memory may be made to the Victoria Hospice Society.
