1929 - 2022
Audrey (Mary) Wilson passed away peacefully on January 23, 2022 at Amica Douglas House. Audrey was born in York County, Ontario in 1929. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years Ernest George Wilson. And is survived by her children Wayne (Diane), Mark (Sally), Michael (Cathy), by her grandchildren Boden (Jordan), Andrew (Chantal), Anna, Brent, Kyle and by her great-grandchildren Avery, Nathaniel, Layla and Ivy.
Audrey was a brilliant businesswoman who secured a bank loan and started a floral business (Kingsway Florist) at the age of 17. She had no funds, zero equity, and her sole credentials were her charm, grit, and determination to create a better life. In succeeding to start a business from nothing which thrived, she set the course for the prosperity of all the generations of family to come. She ensured that we would not have to struggle as she did. For this we are eternally grateful.
Another one of her many strengths was leadership. Audrey always rose to the top of the many organizations she joined, as people quickly recognized her social and superb organizational gifts. She also loved to paint, played the piano, and was an expert seamstress. And she decorated her home and dressed with great elegance and style. But most of all we all knew her as our indomitable family matriarch – a superb wife, our loving mother, and our supportive, inspiring Nana.
Throughout her life Audrey demonstrated sharp intelligence, compassion, resourcefulness, stamina, perseverance, endurance, and courage. She has left our family with an irreplaceable and lofty legacy. She was the heart of our family and always will be.
Audrey’s funeral will take place at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Evangelist on 990 Falmouth Road, Victoria, BC. on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 2 PM. The committal of her ashes will follow on February 14 at St. Michael and All the Angels Cemetery where she will rest with her husband. Her family wish to thank Archbishop Shane Jantzen for his caring spiritual support, and the Douglas House staff care team.
May the angels she loved bless her always.
