It is with profound sadness that the family of Barbara Brodeur announces her passing on March 3rd, 2023 at the age of 102 years. Her incredible life will be lovingly remembered by her son, Michael Lock (Jennifer), grandchildren; Melissa Lock, Glen Stevens (Sharon), and Dale Stevens (Mary-Anne Bowcott); stepson, Don (Wendey), step-daughter Dianne (Jim); brother-in-law, Nigel (Anne) along with family in England and many wonderful, caring friends.
Barbara was born on August 15th, 1920 in Eastbourne, Sussex, England. After her father passed, she was raised, along with her brothers, by a strong mother. Barbara married Donald in 1939 as WWII was beginning. While Donald was away, Barbara raised Michael, ran the family business, and served in the women's Land Army. The family immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in April 1952.
Barbara was an incredibly skilled hair stylist and became an instructor at the Vancouver Vocational Institute during the late 1950s where she taught as well as wrote manuals for the students. The family went on to move to Pender Harbour, BC to open a General Store and eventually settled in Sechelt, BC, where they owned rental properties. After Don passed away in 1988, Barbara found love and married Philip Brodeur in 1991. They enjoyed adventures and many years of happiness together. They eventually moved to Victoria, BC to be closer to family.
Barbara lived a life of class, perseverance, and conviction, which she held on to during her final days.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the compassionate staff at the Berwick Royal Oak for their care and compassion, especially during her final days.
There will be no service, but donations can be made in her memory to Parkinson's BC to continue the efforts in the research for a cure.
