Bonnie Dalinger, aged 78 years, passed away peacefully in Victoria surrounded by loving family on April 9, 2021 after a lengthy illness. Always a royalist, Bonnie joins Prince Philip by passing on the same day, something that would have made her smile.
Bonnie was predeceased by her mother Constance (2003), father Harry, the love of her life Francis (2009), her Auntie Dorrie of Essex, England (2015), and her beloved sister Betty (2016).
Bonnie is lovingly remembered by her daughter Jackie (Jaclynn) and son-in-law Marc of Victoria, BC and her son Craig and daughter-in-law Albeni of Abbotsford, BC.
Bonnie also leaves behind one grandson, Maximus, whom she loved very much, her long time friend and brother in law Gerry, nephews Brian and David, her niece Carol and their children and grandchildren. Bonnie will also be missed by her wonderful friends, Marilyn, Derek and Darlene.
Bonnie was born in Ontario and spent her formative years in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In her early youth, her family uplifted and moved to Bulawayo, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) only to return to Winnipeg at 16 years old. Bonnie subsequently married and had her children, living in several cities including Thunder Bay, Montreal, and relocating to Ladner, BC for 20 plus years. After her children were raised, Bonnie and Francis moved to Winnipeg and Edmonton before settling in Cobble Hill, BC for a number of years. After Francis’ passing, Bonnie relocated to Victoria, BC to be closer to family.
Bonnie was known as a great cook and loved to bake. She also loved to travel and was able to take many cruises with family and friends and many junkets to Reno and Las Vegas with Francis. Bonnie was a professional Bingo player, able to play more cards than most. She was also a great knitter, known for her fabulous Cowichan sweaters.
In Bonnie’s later years, she enjoyed her large movie library at home and was an avid reader. She also loved to engage in lively and lengthy political discussions.
The family of Bonnie would like to thank her extended family, friends, her care workers (in particular Chris and Tammy), her wonderful landlord Brenda and the Hoylake team, her Doctor and nurses, first responders, Victoria General Hospital staff and all others that helped her in her later years.
At Bonnie’s request there will be no service. Francis and Bonnie will be reunited in the future where their ashes will be spread together along the Hubbard Glacier in Alaska.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of BC and Yukon.
