Bruce was born in Winnipeg Manitoba on May 22, 1935 and grew up in Victoria. He was the youngest of three children. At the age 19 he joined the Armed Forces in Penhold, Alberta; where he met the love of his life Evelyn Galloway on the CPR train going from Vancouver to Red Deer Alberta. Bruce was an Aerotech engineer and musician with the Military. He worked on Canadian Forces jets 101 and 104 and eventually reaching the rank of Master Warrant Officer, serving 36 years. Stationed in Penhold, Winnipeg, Comox, Cold Lake and Baden Baden Germany. During these postings Bruce became the proud father of three children, Debra, Kenneth and Darryl. Years later he became a grandpa with two granddaughters Kristy and Nicole. And a great grandpa to grandson Cade. And has many nieces and nephews.
After retirement from the Air Force, Bruce furthered his education to attain a power engineering diploma and worked another ten years as a maintenance engineer at the Pat Bay Institute of Ocean Sciences. He continued his passion playing the Trombone in a Military big band and then after retirement, serving many communities on Vancouver Island. He loved to fish and play golf. He and Evelyn enjoyed numerous travels, most lately south in their camper van. They participated in golfing tournaments and relished visits with many friends and family. Having a good time with people was a passion of theirs.
Bruce will always be remembered for his kind and generous demeanor, blended with a great sense of humour, as well as his caring quality towards the multitude of dogs shared in his life.
Bruce is survived by his wife Evelyn, his daughter Debra Antiphon (Patrick), sons Kenneth MacMillan, Darryl MacMillan. Brother in-law George Chadwick (Diane), Roy Galloway (Judy), Sister in-law Diane MacMillan.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thankyou to the staff at Broadmead Lodge Palm South for their excellent care and love they showed Bruce during his long six-year illness. By Bruce’s request, there will be no service.
COME TO ME
God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so He put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away, and although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us. He only takes the best.
