My good friend Daphne Massey and I sat at a window table at a neighbourhood cafe one day, accompanied by a host of teddy bears dressed in historical costume that were destined for a photo shoot to promote the cruise ship “Meet and Greet” program of Victoria AM. Darline happened to stroll by the window; she loved teddies so she came in and made a beeline for us, wanting to know what we were up to. Her enthusiasm and friendliness displayed that day was Darline all over - a person who loved people. In no time at all, she was dressed in Victorian costume herself, welcoming visitors to Victoria at the Ogden Point pier. She also soon joined Heritage Productions, taking her joie de vivre into many retirement and nursing homes, showing countless people how much fun you can have at any age. I will remember Darline in her blue Edwardian walking suit, chatting up a storm with everyone she met.

"First Contact" with Darline was in 2007 when she expressed an interest in donning heritage attire to meet-and-greet cruise ships. Thereafter came many occasions for her to carry on doing what she liked to do, meeting-and-greeting passengers disembarking from the Coho ferry, and joining the Belleville Greeters who were engaged as "colour party" to a number of events, some in pirate attire. It wasn't long before Len appeared on the scene, and there was an immediate doubling up of enjoyable events. We will miss her wit and her amazing smile.
