David was born and raised in Val Marie, Saskatchewan, but made his way to the west coast in his early twenties. He was an outdoors guy, a lover of nature, the ocean, and all creatures in the natural world. A skilled Mr. Fix-it extraordinaire, he lovingly renovated his home, was a thoughtful and helpful neighbour, a loyal and caring friend. David really enjoyed cooking – his BBQ salmon was legendary – a reason to gather friends and family to share food, memories and conversation.
Always fun and with a wicked sense of humour, David was curious and interested in acquiring knowledge, he really enjoyed learning about everything. An avid reader, he was also a daily writer of a personal journal and poetry. He loved to sketch, and recently took up water colour painting to express his joy and appreciation of the world around him. David enjoyed his long walks along Dallas Road, and was a twenty year member at the downtown YMCA. As well, on a daily basis, he put aside time for meditation and Iyengar yoga practice. He found that the philosophy and warmth of the Iyengar community resonated and fit with who he was, and who he was becoming.
David’s loss leaves a huge hole in the family so very dear to him - wife Susan, daughter Charlotte (Ben), grand-daughters Abigail and Caitlin, Mom Rena, brothers Clair & Dwayne, many Reid nieces, cousins and other extended family across the prairies, as well as Susan’s Peck family in Ontario.
Owing to COVID, there will be no commemorative service at this time. In late summer David’s ashes will be interred in Ross Bay Cemetery, there will be a notification about this and all are welcome to attend.
