David Allan Ross

June 10, 1942 – May 7, 2018
Obituary of David Allan Ross
IN THE CARE OF

First Memorial Funeral Services & Garden of Memories

David passed away peacefully in hospice at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on May 7, 2018.

David will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lynn, sister Fran (Rick), daughters Selene (Tim) and Jeni (Brent), and his many friends and Aurora Lodge brothers. David was adopted in 1942 by Elizabeth and Reginald Ross in Vancouver BC. He was a wonderful brother to his sister Fran and was always there to support her and cheer her on. He attended Shawnigan Lake boarding school on Vancouver Island from 1952 – 1961, where he excelled at every sport he participated in, becoming a key player on many teams. He was presented with the Shawnigan Sportsmanship award by the Lieutenant Governor of BC upon graduation in 1961.

After graduation, David lived in England for three years, where he was invited to play professionally for the London Scottish Rugby Club. Even though he loved rugby, and it was an honour to be invited, he decided to return to North America to go to college. He attended Foothill College in Los Altos California, where he studied business and marketing, and where he met Lynn Ebert, his wife to be. They were married in 1967 and moved to Vancouver BC and then to Vancouver Island where they had two daughters. David was a wonderful husband and father, and always put his family first. He was a cheerleader and supporter of both of his children, and would never hesitate to jump in and help in any way he could.

He worked in the food brokerage business for many years, where he met some wonderful life long friends and positively impacted many people. He was a long time member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge, where he practiced and taught the lessons of Virtue, Morality and Brotherly Love. He was a mentor to many and he was always generous to those he came across and to those in need in both his personal and working life.

He loved to watch football and basketball and (loudly) cheered on his favorite teams. David also loved fishing. Any kind of fishing! Salmon, halibut, trout, cod, swordfish; you name it, he fished it! He spent many happy hours at sea or on the lake fishing with his buddies. He also loved music, and could play the piano beautifully.

David will be remembered for his passion for life and his ability to form positive relationships with everyone he met. He was an amazing athlete and loved rugby, basketball, football, rowing, running, gymnastics, swimming and working out at the gym. David always loved a party and was an exceptional host and BBQ master.

A celebration of life will be held on August 9th, 2018, from 2:00 - 4:00pm at The Beach House Restaurant - 5109 Cordova Bay Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's name can be made to Victoria Hospice, where the caring staff provided incredible care for David.
