April 21, 1945- October 17, 2023
If you are reading this, then know that I have entered again the Great Circle of Life and Death, embarking on a journey free from this mortal coil.
I leave behind my siblings Dave Yates (Kathy), Calgary; Ken Yates (Heather), Peterborough; Jonathan Yates (Anna), Toronto; Arthur Yates, Victoria; Campbell yates (Gloria), Sooke; and Dale Ford, Edmonton. Also many relatives and dear friends. Those especially beloved, you know who you are.
Caring high school teachers encouraged and helped me register for University. The kindness of strangers who donated money for scholarships and bursaries made it financially possible for me to obtain a Masters degree from University of Manitoba and then my PhD from Western. A career in clinical psychology and travel to many countries have enriched my life. Born in Manitoba, I've studied and worked in Manitoba (starting out at age 8 as a paper carrier for the Winnipeg Tribune), Ontario and B.C. My life journey has been further enriched by discovering and embracing my native Cree heritage; I am proud to be Metis.
In 2000, with my kidneys failing, my wonderful sister in law Gloria gave me the Gift of Life by donating one of her kidneys to me. This gift has seen me through some difficult health times, including cancer and at times, debilitating arthritis. Despite these and other challenges, I feel truly blessed to have had such a good life and to have known so many wonderful people, people who believe in giving just as much as receiving.
❤️Loved and dearly missed by her family and friends❤️
