Don spent his early years in Calgary but after graduating from the University of Alberta with a Professional Engineering Degree he headed out to the BC coast. Initially working in the pulp and paper industry for a consulting company on a project at MacMillan Bloedel, until he and two of his friends were fired. With an entrepreneurial spirit they set up their own consulting firm Envirocon. Then after a few years they all chose to strike out on their own.
Don maintained his speciality in the pulp and paper industry and went on to be a major player in the design of zero effluent mills (feel free to Google that!). Consulting around the world in 6 of the seven continents (we’ll let you figure out the one that did not need his expertise).
Don was faced with a number of personal and health challenges over the years but like the Energizer Bunny he just kept going and going. He always maintained a positive attitude and remained optimistic about what the future had to offer. He had a quick wit, an analytical mind that never stopped, a big generous heart and a talent for teasing which is a sign of affection in the Manolescu family. He had a love of puzzles, rhymes, riddles and banana splits. Don never lost that ability to charm, bring out a smile or laugh. a gift we can all attest to, especially the ladies in his life.
Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends but will live on in our hearts and memories.
There will be no formal Celebration of Life, however the family requests that you choose a time and place to come together with other family or friends to share loving memories and stories of your friendship with MANO.
