It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Donald Alvin Roebuck, who passed away at the age of 88, at the Veterans Memorial Lodge in Victoria, BC on December 20, 2022 at 6:05 pm. A devoted husband and caring father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed.
Donald was born in Vulcan, Alberta on October 14, 1934. On March 2, 1957 he married Cecilia, the love of his life, in Bagotville, Quebec. Early in their marriage Donald and Cecilia moved overseas through a Canadian Armed Forces posting, living in France, then Germany. They sang in folk music groups in Europe and upon their return to Canada in the 60’s and 70’s. Donald continued to play guitar and sing with family for his entire life. He also sang and directed church choirs. An avid athlete, Donald was a ski and windsurfing instructor, and he coached football. He also excelled in curling, climbing, and other sports. Donald held the rank of Major in the Royal Canadian Air Forces until his retirement in 1990. In his years in the Armed Forces, Donald and Cecilia and their family moved over 47 times. After retirement, he raised horses, traveled Europe, and had more time for cooking and gardening. He often visited his adult children and their families and continued to offer support and guidance. Throughout his life, Donald made the best of each opportunity and generously shared his love of adventure, nature, music, and laughter.
Donald is survived by his wife of 66 years Cecilia Roebuck, his children Audrey (Sav), Karen (Dan), Bill (Linda), John (Marilyn) and Cynthia, grandchildren Amy (James), Andrew (Natalie), Christalyn (Chaz), Scott (Barbara), Graham (Freya), Gwyn, and John, great grandchildren Quinn, Samara, Sloan and Matthew, siblings David (Mayte), Barry, and Linda (Don), and brother-in-law Arnie.
