Doug spent his working years as a self-employed carpenter. His talents evolved into an accomplished woodworker and highly skilled craftsman working on high end custom displays and cabinetry.
Doug's happiest days were around water. His childhood years were spent living on Prospect Lake and later, at the age of 24, he built his dream home on Prospect Lake. Doug was an avid sailor for many decades. He enjoyed scuba diving, fishing and windsurfing and, for the past few years, he delighted in being the Captain of his party barge plying the waters of Prospect Lake.
Doug was a kind, sensitive and compassionate human being who always thought of others before himself and loved to make people laugh. He was a gamester and always looked forward to the next new gadget.
Doug courageously fought his long cancer battle with dignity and never complained, keeping his sense of humour until the end.
Doug's legacy carries on as his generosity has given two people the gift of sight.
Thank you Dr. Jennifer Lush for your kind support, to all the community workers for your special care and to all our family and dear friends who stood by us, came when needed and continue with their loving support.
Mourning Doug's passing are his Sisters Lynda (Jock), David and Wendy McGregor, Cathy (Howie), Debbie and Chad Davis and his Sisters-in-law Holly, Ryan and Kyle McGimpsey, Wendy Hudson (Serge).
During their 49 amazing years together Doug's devoted and loving wife, Gail, was his soulmate, first mate, carpenter's apprentice and love of his life.
I will miss you dearly. You were my everything and "I bless the day I found you" from our song Let It Be Me.
Travel the world now my sweet man.
Till we meet again, Doug, my love.
