Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle – Ed passed away at the age of 83 peacefully at the Victoria Hospice with his wife of 60 years Sandy by his side. He is survived by (Wife) Sandra (Sandy) Elsie Allen, Daughter Pauline Allen (Kent Strachan), Son Ed (Collette Allen), Grandchildren Donald (Brianna), Brandon, Kassandra (Ryan) and Spencer. He is also survived by his Brother, Sisters, sister-in-law's and numerous nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his Father, Mother, Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, and a sister.
Ed was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces before marrying his sole mate, Sandy. Sandy and Ed enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. In the 1970’s Ed and his family moved between Winnipeg and Calgary finally settling on Calgary in 1978. Ed primarily worked in the automotive industry. In his spare time, he spent many years as a drummer in various bands in the Calgary area. In his late 30’s Ed began downhill skiing and enjoying many trips and at one point took the course to be an instructor. In Ed’s 40’s he took up road cycling and he progressed to start competing in many road races. His biggest achievement in cycling was becoming the Canadian Champion for his age class at the age of 56.
Ed and Sandy moved from Calgary to Victoria in March of 2001. While in Victoria Ed and Sandy took up golfing. They also enjoyed many scenic places in Victoria his favourite being Saxe Pointe. When he retired, he continued his love of cars. He really enjoyed his love of European cars and owned several Mercedes, BMW’s and even a couple Mini’s.
Due to COVID-19 Restrictions a memorial service in honor of Ed will be held at a later date to be determined.
