Treasured wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Ellie was born in Prince Albert Saskatchewan to Lillis and Arthur Paterson. She graduated high school in 1945 and then went to work for the Bank of Nova Scotia. She transferred to Victoria in 1949, with her best friend Lavina, following her parents who had relocated earlier that year. She also worked at the B of M, CIBC and then as Head Cashier at Sears for 13 years, retiring in 1982. She was a piper at age 14 and joined the Victoria Girls Pipe Band as soon as she moved here. She taught swimming for many years with the Canadian Red Cross.
She met the love of her life, Bob, in September 1949 and they married the following June. They enjoyed 67 years together travelling the world with many visits to Hawaii. Ellie is predeceased by her parents and brother, William “Bill”. Forever loved by husband, Robert “Bob” Curtis, children, R. Lee Curtis (Pauline), Pat Tancock (John “Oz”), grandchildren, Lindsay Cosgrave (Paul), Rob Curtis (Lindsay), Blake Tancock, Rachael Tancock, great grandchildren, Mide, Abby and Claire.
Ellie was a very active lady. She swam all her life and was proud to be an honorary member of the Royal Life Saving Society. She continued to play bridge, swim, and golf regularly with her special groups of friends up until 6 months ago.
All family friends are invited to join us for a celebration of life, to be held at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria on Wednesday, April 12th at 3pm.
Our sincerest appreciation goes out to the absolutely wonderful staff at Victoria Hospice.
