October 29, 1943 – November 26, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Margaret Anna Psyllakis (née Wells), who left this world peacefully on November 26, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on October 29, 1943, Elizabeth was raised on Salt Spring Island and in Victoria by her devoted adoptive parents, Margret Robb Richardson Wells and Austin Louis Wells. From an early age, she embodied warmth, compassion, and a steadfast sense of care that would go on to define her life.
Elizabeth was the beloved wife of Demetrios (“Paul”) Psyllakis, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage. It was a partnership marked by devotion, humour, and deep, enduring love. Together they raised five children: Paula (Brian), Jennifer (Chris), Poppy (Michael), Demetri (Yoko), and Gauge (Alex). She was also the proud and adoring grandmother of Thea, Eleni, Adriana, Chloe, Dio, and Grace.
A natural caregiver, Elizabeth dedicated more than two decades to fostering, opening her heart and home to countless children. She once said that her life’s work was to be a mother, and she lived that truth every day. All who were mothered by her, whether by birth, circumstance, or choice, are better for having known her unconditional love and steady presence.
In her late fifties, Elizabeth met her biological mother, Guðrún Hanson, and discovered three sisters - Vicki, Carole, and Dianne, each of whom she was deeply grateful to know. The reunion brought a sense of wholeness and connection that she treasured.
Elizabeth was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. Though she never considered herself an intellectual, her thoughtful conversations on topics ranging from quantum physics to the works of William Shakespeare revealed a curious, engaged, and insightful mind. She was also deeply concerned about the environment and humanity, supporting numerous causes including the Western Wilderness Committee, Plan International, and Doctors Without Borders.
She will be remembered for her warmth, wit, and wisdom; for her generous heart and boundless curiosity; and for the countless ways she enriched the lives of those around her. Her love, laughter, and compassion will continue to guide all who knew her.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at the University Club (3800 Finnerty Road, Parking Lot 9) on Saturday, May 2 from 1 - 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of the organizations she supported or to a charity of your choice.
