

Emily Alice Brackett, born on September 25, 1923, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024, in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada, at the age of 101. Emily was a cherished figure in her community, known for her joyful spirit, loving nature, and generosity.
Before marrying her beloved husband Ray, Emily was a renowned pianist in Saskatchewan. After moving to Pender Island as a new bride, she embraced life as a mother, homemaker, and piano teacher, both at the local school and in her home. She also served as the organist for the United Church on North Pender Island. Later in life, Emily pursued a career in bookkeeping and accounting after attending night school, a testament to her hardworking and adaptable nature.
Emily’s love for music never waned as she continued to play the piano and organ for various occasions. Her hobbies also included sewing, knitting, and volunteering with the Legion ladies’ auxiliary on Pender Island and in Sidney. Emily was a graduate of the Music School in Saskatchewan where she trained as a concert pianist.
Emily also enjoyed walking and in her later years, Emily took up exercise at Curves into her 90’s and was in the newspaper for recognition on attendance at Curves. Speaks to her determination and resilience.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter Fay and son-in-law Chuck, four grandchildren: Debbie, Andy, Sara, Tim; eight great-grandchildren: Celina, Ethan, Zackery, Johnathan, Tyler, Jackson, Cole, Tory;and a great-great-grandchild, Jameson. Emily was preceded in death by her husband Ray, daughter Margaret, and son-in-law John.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church, 9296 East Saanich Rd., North Saanich, BC. on November 16, 2024 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sidney Food Bank or a charity of your choice in memory of Emily. Emily’s legacy of love, music, and community service will forever resonate with those who knew her.
