Evelyn Joyce Little

November 7, 1922October 12, 2020

Joyce passed away peacefully October 12, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband Ken, 1996, and her son Michael, 2014. She is survived by her daughter Denny and son Clint, six grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Joyce was born in Victoria to William and Lillian Povah, the youngest of seven. Most of her life was spent in Nanaimo (Departure Bay area) until 1963. Early employment was managing a grocery store while the owners did home deliveries. After that she worked in Ladies Fashions at Spencer’s Department Store (later bought out by Eaton’s) where she met Ken who worked in “Advertising and Display” when he returned from overseas (WWII). They married in 1947 and soon had three children. Her life went back to Victoria when Ken transferred with Eaton’s in 1963.

She was introduced to Jehovah’s Witnesses by her brother Arthur in 1953, and after two years of study with Marj Bond and Grace Bowick, was baptized in 1955. Despite early opposition she stayed strong in faith right to the end of her life, never missing an opportunity to share the promise of a peaceful paradise earth!

Mom was artistic, creative, very social, loved to entertain, along with years supplying room and board to more people than we can count! Some were nurses in training, UVIC international students, and many Jehovah’s Witnesses, both married and single, who needed reasonably priced accommodation. Her generosity to those in need abounded.

We wish to extend our appreciation to her many close friends in both the Cedar Hill and Beacon Hill congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses – your efforts to take her to the Kingdom Hall and appointments along with helping her to continue her ministry via mail have not gone unnoticed.

We cannot thank Sandringham Care Centre, Dr. Argouarch and staff enough for your care of our mother and how supportive you were to us when we could visit.

We hope to have a family gathering when COVID permits.

We had a Grandmother who was full of energy and spirit. We have endless memories of the beach, the lakes and oceans. Grandma loved to swim and be in nature. Something that was passed on to all us grandkids and we will pass on to the next generation.

Thank you for being such a great grandma! I have so many good memories of visiting Victoria and being taken sightseeing - beach days and ham & cheese croissants! Looking forward to welcoming you back full of zest for life!
