PRAËL, Evelyn (Eva) passed away peacefully on October 8, 2015. Born in Germany in 1944, Eva married the love of her life, Folker, in 1965. The family immigrated to Canada in 1981 and settled in Victoria. Fulfilling a life-long dream, Eva attended the University of Victoria while raising her children, and obtained her B.A. in 1992. She subsequently enjoyed success as a realtor and in her business, “Nomadic Arts”. When not looking after her family or working, Eva traveled widely in Europe, Asia, and Africa, both to accompany Folker on the engineering contracts that took him all over the world, and to visit her four children as they moved away to study and to work. When Folker was home, they most enjoyed spending time together at their seaside cottage in Sooke. Folker passed away in 2009, nursed by Eva through the long months of his illness. Over the past year, as she herself was weakened by illness, her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren were honoured to return in kind all the love and support they had received over the years. Eva will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children Ute (Jim), Burk (Shannon), Angelika (Richard), Helmar (Lisa), and grandchildren Cameron and Laura, Evan and Ryan, Nicola and Alexander, and Matthias and Sonja. She will also be missed by her brother Klaus, her sister Angela, and her close friends Doris, Kristina, Hedi, and Luise. The family would like to thank all of the home care nurses of Victoria Hospice, especially Danielle, for the exceptional support and care they provided. A private service was held this week in Eva’s honour. If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please consider the Victoria Dandelion Society or Victoria Hospice.
