She is predeceased by her husband George, who died in 2014 at age 102 after 67 years of marriage. She is survived by her sons Brian (Sharon), George (Marla), Kevin (Carol) and Sean, and by grandchildren Ryan (Amber) and Carly plus great-grandchildren Georgia and Addie.
Dian was born in Holland in 1920. Dian and her husband George both served with the United Nations (International Refugee Organization) in Germany after the war. In 1954 she followed George to Canada, traveling by bus across the continent from New York to northern Alberta with two very young sons. After two years, she moved with her family to Calgary, Alberta where they lived until George retired in 1977, when they moved to Victoria. For the past seven years Dian has been at the Selkirk care facility, which she loved.
Dian was an accomplished pianist and linguist, fluently speaking 4 languages. She enjoyed singing in the Dutch choir both in Calgary and Victoria. She loved the sun and water at the family cabin at Chestermere Lake, and the sports activities at the Calgary Winter Club especially bowling. She was gregarious and outgoing and had many friends both in Calgary and Victoria. She loved her wine and desserts, and enjoyed her last chocolate and glass of wine just a few days before she passed.
Thanks to all the staff at Selkirk, especially Flo. Mom will be missed by all of us.
