Our mother, Frances Geraldine Swaile (née Haverty), born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, on October 6, 1931, passed away on June 19, 2024, at age 92, here in Victoria. Mom was predeceased by our father, Bob Swaile, who passed away April 28, 1999.
Mom leaves behind her beloved family: daughter Brenda (Dave), son Murray (Marnie), daughter Shelley (Bill), and seven grandchildren: Rob, Kris, Dana, Arwen, Devin, Cailyn, and Braeden. Mom also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and her friends that she cherished: Edna, Verlaine, Linda, Ann A., Ann, and Joanne.
Mom and Dad, after getting married in Moosejaw, moved to the West Coast and settled in Richmond, BC, where they raised their children. Mom's sisters Rose (Rod), and Dot (Bob), and mom's girlfriends Alice (Dave) and Lois (Tom) had also moved to the Vancouver area and they all got together on weekends and holidays for fun. There were countless barbecues, potlucks, card games, yahtzee, cribbage, and horseshoes – so many laughs and so much support for one another through the years.
Mom lived a full life with her family and friends. With Dad she enjoyed many activities such as camping, boating, fishing, curling, bowling, and travelling, including frequent trips to Hawaii and Mexico.
Mom especially loved getting together with her family and friends. She was always keen on helping people. This generosity continued into her 80s. One example of this took place a few years ago when another resident of the retirement home Mom lived in was about to turn 100 years of age. Mom decided to make, from scratch and by herself, 100 sausage rolls for the birthday celebration. It took Mom several hours to make them but she was happy to contribute to the celebration.
Special thanks to the staff at Parkwood Place, to Age Care Glenwarren Lodge, and to Dr. How for their dedication and looking after mom. Our family and Mom appreciated their kind care.
We will miss her.
