We are sad to announce that Frank Beer, a dear friend to many, passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on August 19, 2019. Frank was born on January 28, 1941 in Toronto, Ontario. He spent 30 plus years at sea travelling the world while serving in the Navy. After visiting British Columbia on deployment, Frank loved the west coast so much he chose to retire as a veteran in Victoria. Frank was an avid gardener, a talented artist, and extremely hard worker. Frank was dedicated to everything he did with the highest standard of perfection and detail, something Canada Revenue quickly figured out when deciding to audit him a few years ago (haha)!

After retiring as a veteran, Frank continued to work at TPM Management for 23 years. Any spare time he had was spent at the soccer field managing soccer teams over the years with Prospect Lake – making many friends along the way. He was so proud of his Div 1 girls teams’ success and making it to the provincials this year. The team and coach will be lost without him and his famous red hat!

One of Frank’s mottos in life was don’t stop until you drop and – if he had his way – he would have continued working up until his last day on this earth. Frank finally had to start to slow down when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 which he fought with all his might.

Frank was a bit of a lone wolf in the world but touched so many lives with his generosity, kindness, and willingness to help others. He always put others first and would go above and beyond for the people he cared about while not expecting or wanting anything in return. He leaves behind his brother Mike Beer and close friends, Maddy Blanchard, Jeremy McChesney, Adriano Sumberac, Noni Baanstra, Amanda Laton, Jim and Marie Jennings, Jules Nagy, Debbie Hunt, Mandy Porter, and of course his favorite dog, Harley.

A celebration of life will be held for Frank at Layritz Park Field Clubhouse on September 21, 2019 from 6:00pm - 11:00pm. Food and drinks will be provided. Please rsvp by email to mndy.porter@gmail.com (capacity is limited).

I met Frank Beer in 1985 when he joined CFFSE (Canadian Forces Fleet School) in the Boatswain Division - All the many years I worked as a Private Secretary in this Division we had an instant friendship of working and fun - Frank always saw the humor side of everything ! A wonderful energetic person who always helped the 'under-dog' struggling - Working as a Chief Supervisor he managed the thousands of students studying to get into a higher level - He was the 'early arrival' and ' late leaving' Staff member - working at his normal speed which was 'go fast' - Over the years we worked at many side jobs and sports in the Ski Mountains and he in Women's Soccer and without a doubt he was loved by many and respected for always being the person behind efforts and support without anyone knowing it.
He came to my lake acreage at Cowichan Lake and helped build and cared for and supported me during tough times and always insisted in the 'extra' which is how my place will always be Frank's place too in conversations - I will miss him dearly, his joking ways that were always followed by laughter - calling me 'blond roots' when I got things mixed up or forgot how to start a chain saw ! He taught me how to use tools and have confidence in myself and the statement I loved the most was "Waddya Want now!" - I will miss you Frank but only physically because you will always be there just around the corner in my mind with a big smile and a hand wave - thanks so much for being my best friend - luv NoniB
