It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Gladys Mae Calder's peaceful passing on April 26, 2025, at the age of 97. Born to Ada and Andrew Wallace in Long Beach, California, on November 13, 1927.
The family moved to Victoria, BC where Gladys married Mike Kilgour (deceased), raised their four children and then built a successful career in office administration, notably with the Canadian Mental Health Association. Later in life, she married Clifford Calder (deceased), and they enjoyed 38 years filled with world travel, golfing, gardening, and entertaining.
Gladys embraced life with enthusiasm, finding joy in family, pets, music, nature, crafting, and dancing, and was deeply committed to community service. She had a quick, dry wit and loved making people laugh. Faith played a central role in her life as an active member of the Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church, and she looked forward to her new life in Heaven.
She is survived by her children Keith Kilgour(Deanna), Blair Kilgour(Kathy), and Gem Astren(David), her stepchildren Daryl Calder(Marianne) and Loragene Calder, her grandchildren Kelly, Tasha, Michelle, and Grant, and her great-grandson Everett. Gladys was predeceased by her first son, Gary Kilgour, and her first grandson, Troy Davis.
A memorial service will be held, Friday, May 30, 2025 at 10:30 am at Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church, 9296 East Saanich Rd.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gladys' memory may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
