Gurcharn Singh Birk

We are sad to announce the passing of Gurcharn Singh Birk on the morning of May 9, 2023, at the age of 90, in Victoria, BC. Gurcharn was born to Labh Singh Virk and Dhan Dai Virk on June 17, 1932, in Lidhran, India. Upon arriving in Canada, he worked in the lumber industry while building a life for himself and his family. He leaves behind his wife, Uma Shashi, and his two children, Raman and Rita, as well as his loving grandchildren, Vani, Rohan, Maya, and Raunik.

Gurcharn was passionate about many things in life including nature, Indian classical music (ghazals), Urdu poetry, and above all else, his family. He took immense pride in keeping his garden in pristine condition and his value of hard work was reflected in many facets of his life. His beautiful home and garden are a reflection of the hard work and dedication he had for his passions in life. He was a family oriented man devoted to working hard to build a beautiful life for his family. Albeit seeming outwardly serious at times, he had a wonderful sense of humor that was enjoyed greatly by his family and friends.

A service to commemorate his beautiful life will be held on May 18, 2023 at First Memorial Funeral Services and Garden of Memories (4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC).
