November 7, 1922- August 11, 2023
Horst was born in Danzig, at the time, a free German state.
He was predeceased by his parents Laura (geb. Fillbrandt) and Rudolph Selz, brother Heinz and sister Louise.
Horst and his first wife Cecilia immigrated in 1955 and settled in Regina. Very soon after, Horst heard that the Yarrow Shipyard in Victoria, was looking for qualified workers and Horst and Cecilia moved and settled in Central Saanich. Horst's education (3 years apprenticeship in Schwerin) as a metal fabricator came in very handy. He loved blueprints and his brain was wired for numbers. He worked at the shipyard for 30 years, was only late once, when his Chevy had a flat tire. Cecilia and Horst had 4 children, Mady, Falk, Robin and Danny. In 1986 Cecilia died (at only 58 years old) and left horst with their 4 children.
Horst married his second wife Monika in 1989 and they enjoyed living on his little piece of paradise: chickens, one potbelly pig and sheep. They travelled extensively and treasured every day.
Horst went into care at the Saanich Peninsula Longterm in the spring of 2022. Monika can't get over the wonderful care and compassion he received. The angels were: Angelika, Marnie, Nisha, Lourdes, Meagan, Ela, Corinne, Kashmiro, Cathy, Ernesto and Andy.
A graveyard service will take place at the Shady Creek cemetery on Sept 6th at 11 am.
