It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, Papa, Greatpapa, uncle, cousin and friend Howard Eggen. He passed away at home in Sidney, BC on March 25, 2021 at the age of 89.
He was born in La Glacé, Alberta on November 5, 1931 to father Peter Eggen and mother Matilda Eggen (Roseth) and was the eldest son of eight children. The family later moved to Tofield, Alberta where he went to school. He started working in the oil industry on a seismic crew and eventually spent time in Radville, Saskatchewan where he met and married his sweetheart Lorraine, they raised their family in Radville, Edmonton and Calgary. He worked for Shell Oil for over 30 years.
Lorraine and Howard were married for 66 years and raised five children Gary (Andrea), Ron (Heather), Sherry (Keith), Alison (Ed), & Corrine (Rich); eight grandchildren Christina (Renato), Corly (Mike), Erik (Karolina), Crystal, Aaron, Ashley (Peter), Kyle (Abbie) & Laura. One of the highlights of Howard’s life was living long enough to welcome five great-grand children to the family, Jack, Sarah, Lucy, Theo and Cohen. They filled his heart with pure joy!!
Howard was predeceased by his parents, his wife Lorraine and siblings Patsy, Orville, Herb, Rita, and Shirley. He was a proud big brother and he very much enjoyed his near daily phone calls with his siblings Jim and Phyllis.
Howard was one of the last true gentleman, he got along with literally everyone. He very much enjoyed his retirement years at Arbutus Ridge where he golfed just about every day and liked to play cards with friends. He was a patient kindhearted fella and will be remembered for all his little sayings, his dry sense of humour, his daily news and snooze, his love of sports (baseball, hockey, football, curling and golf), and his unconditional love of family and friends. He was the first to call and check in and liked to keep up with the latest and greatest in everyone’s life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will be held when public health regulations allow it.
