died peacefully in his sleep at Mount St Mary Hospital in Victoria BC on Aug 7 2020.
Hugh was born in Calgary AB, Jul 30 1926.
His parents Irene (nee Hulbert) and Clinton Wilson Kampton "Kamp" Doherty raised him in West Vancouver BC. His brother Robert, 2 yrs older, died at age 6. Hugh moved to Victoria in the 1940s for a brief time in the Navy, then worked on the CPR Coastal Service ships. He had a long career at HMC Dockyard, Esquimalt, culminating as Chief Engineer on the CNAV Laymore.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty “Bet” (nee Brundrige), 3 sons Stephen (Karen), Daniel (Phillippa) and Todd Doherty, grandchildren Joshua (Magdalena) and Claire (Sean), great-granddaughters Harriet and Iris (by Josh & Maggie), his friends and the many dear cousins who grace our family tree.
Special thanks to the remarkable staff at Mount St Mary Hospital for attentive service through his final months in care.

• Executive member of several other non-profit societies
• Hugh always left a place better than he found it.
