Preceded by his wife, Sorene Kampen, Jim is survived by his children Cora (Peter), Eric (Jen), and Andrew, and his granddaughter Olive.
Born in Yellowknife, to Gladys and Arthur, Jim was the youngest among his sisters— Verna (Julian), Marjorie (Carol), and Yvonne. Jim spent his formative years in Nanaimo where he met his first wife, and mother of his children, Mary. After attending the University of Victoria and earning his teaching credentials, Jim relocated to Chetwynd, BC. Over the course of 31 years, Jim dedicated his professional life to School District 59, serving as a teacher, counsellor, administrator, and a school liaison with SET BC. His unwavering commitment to education left an indelible mark on the community and the lives of countless students.
Jim's love for the great outdoors was boundless. The thrill of skiing on powdery slopes, cycling across the vastness of Canada, backpacking rugged trails, and embarking on motorcycle adventures fueled his zest for life.
Known for his sense of adventure, storytelling flair, and love of good food, Jim will be deeply missed. May his spirit live on in the hearts of those who shared in his adventures.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Friday March 15th at 10:00am at First Memorial Funeral Services Saanich. For those out of town, the service will also be available online at: https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/87172
