Jean was born in Winnipeg Manitoba in February 1928 to parents Ellen and Percy English. She had one sibling; her brother James “Jimmy”. In 1948 she married Graham Turner and they had four children together. The family loved spending time at their cottage at the Lake of the Woods and skiing at Whistler after their move to Victoria in 1965.
Jean worked as a medical office assistant for many years. She and Graham loved gardening, road trips throughout BC and wonderful holidays at Christina Lake.
Jean was a quiet lady with a gentle spirit, kind nature and immense personal strength enduring many health challenges over the years. She remained positive and resilient in spite of her situation.
Family was a priority and she took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who gave her immense joy and comfort.
On moving to The Cridge Village Seniors Centre in fall 2017, she re-discovered the joy of making true friendships which she had little opportunity for since her youth. She cherished the experience.
Jean was predeceased by her infant daughter Gail, much-loved parents, husband of 57 years- Graham, brother Jimmy and sister-in-law Connie.
She is survived by her loving family: children- Kerry Turner (Lisa), Cameron Turner (Shannon), daughter Lauren Charlton (Garry); grandchildren Thea (Dave), Seth (Jill), Andrew, Matthew (Kara), Carson (Jasmine), Graydon as well as five great grandchildren: Emily, Maggie, William, Ben and Margot Jean who Mum was blessed to meet and "see" grow over the past 9 months.
Mum and our family have had a journey the past three+ years beginning with her move to assisted living at The Cridge followed by stays at Jubilee and Aberdeen Hospitals and then on to residential care at Mount Tolmie and Mount Saint Mary Hospitals.
We have been very impressed with the medical services/supports provided and available. We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers, therapists and staff who gave compassionate and loving support/care to our Mum especially to the staff at Mount Saint Mary Hospital who provided exemplary care during these trying times.
We also wish to recognize the dedicated physicians who provided exceptional ongoing care to our Mum especially Drs. Telen Harper, Jennifer Mankilow, Kimberley Northcott, Henry Domke and Sally Smith.
A family service will be arranged at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined in lieu of a donation to the Arthritis Society.
