1948 – 2025
With heavy hearts we are deeply saddened to share the news that Jerry Ray Duncan passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Vancouver, BC, in 1948, Jerry spent the majority of his life in Victoria, BC, where he built a joyful and fulfilling life with his beloved wife of over 40 years, Maureen.
Jerry enjoyed a long and dedicated career with the Department of National Defense, working as an electroplater from the age of 23 until his retirement. Known for his easygoing nature, playful sense of humour, and genuine kindness, he formed lasting friendships wherever he went.
A lifelong fan of country music and classic cars, Jerry took great pride in restoring his treasured 1952 Willy’s pick up truck. He was also a sports enthusiast who loved playing slow pitch and volleyball and rarely passed up the chance for a good round of golf. Jerry and Maureen shared a passion for travel whether cruising the seas or visiting cherished friends across the UK, they embraced every journey with joy and curiosity.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015, Jerry continued to stay as active and engaged as possible. In more recent years, he found comfort in the simple pleasures of life: relaxing in his favourite chair, watching MASH* and NCIS, and—when lucky—enjoying a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie or three, which never failed to put a smile on his face!
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Lois and Don, his brother Donnie, and his sister Darlene.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Maureen; his son Steven, daughter in law Michelle, son Aaron, daughter in law Ruth; his daughter Toni; and his grandchildren: Jordan, Katie, Lauren, Zane, and Zac who he absolutely adored.
Jerry’s warmth, wit, loyalty, and deep love for his family will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the exceptional nursing staff at Victoria General Hospital for their compassion and care during Jerry’s final days, and to his phenomenal GP, Dr. Erika Reiser, for her ongoing support.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to Parkinson Wellness Projects Victoria: https://parkinsonwellness.ca/donate
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
A visitation for Jerry will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC V8Y1B4.
