It is with shock and sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie Senecal at the age of 49 at the
Victoria General Hospital in the early hours of April 4, 2023. She died as the result of a tragic accident
in her home near Qualicum Beach on Sunday March 26.
Jessie began her life on a farm just outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario on January 24, 1974. She and her
family then moved to Calgary and 6 years later to Victoria. Her interest in animals and plants led her to
a degree in Biology at the University of Victoria and employment as a zookeeper at Crystal Gardens.
Here she first met and worked with her future husband Colin. After the disappointing closing of the
Crystal Gardens, Jessie boldly chose to change her direction and attended the Kooteney School of the
Arts where she received a diploma in the metal arts program specializing in silversmithing. After
completion, she moved to Qualicum Beach and shared ownership of a farm with her stepfather and best
friend David for the next 15 years. Here she started her studio designing and producing beautiful
works of art and started Jessie Senecal Jewelry. She also pursued her other passions, gardening,
animals, music and reading. She also married Colin and with their amazing work ethic they created
together beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and a multitude of other projects on the farm. They
shared the love of birding, disc golf and games.
Jessie will be extremely missed by all her friends and neighbours and of course by her surviving family.
Her husband Colin. Her mother Carole and brother Jason who share an adjacent acreage. Her father
Paul and partner Sue of Victoria and her stepfather David Fuller and partner Diane.
The family would like to thank the Dashwood Fire Department and paramedics they were amazing .
Also we would like to thank the ICU staff and the Victoria General Hospital. Their professionalism and
sensitivity was truly amazing.
We are waiting until May the 20th at 1:00 – 4:00 P. M at Jessie's farm at 1645 Rodgers Rd Qualicum
Beach for Jessie's Celebration of Life gathering so that her incredible gardens can have a chance to be
as beautiful as her soul.
