She lived a full and wonderful life. Born in Montreal and raised in Victoria, she married the most wonderful man, our dad/grandpa, Craig Johns in 1948. Together they believed in ‘pulling in the same direction’ and worked hard to build a good life for themselves and their family. They exemplified the phrase “The harder you work the luckier you get”. They raised 3 children; loved travelling the world, cruising, bridge, and boating. They built a family getaway on Cowichan Lake where many happy memories were and continue to be made with family and good friends. A couple of her favorite phrases were “The best part of having things is sharing them” and “Come again when you can’t stay so long”.
After Craig’s passing in 2009, she missed him terribly but continued to stay active, making many new friends through Hospice Support Group and Bridge. She continued to drive until past 90. With the help of her son Dave, she was able to live in her home until her final birthday.
Family was her pride and joy – her children, Bruce (Doris), David, and Penny Woodward (dec’d 2018); grandchildren Daniel Johns (Vassilena), Leah Edgley (Randy), Timothy Johns, Biagio Woodward (Candice), Joshua Woodward; & her special joys, 8 great grandchildren; and her most beloved brother Bob Downey (Jean, Maureen & Ross) in the US.
Special thank you to caregiver Katie; VIHA nurses Dana and Maria; and the doctors and nurses at RJH on her final day. We so much appreciate the kindness you showed our dear mom. Private family service.
