Joan was born March 21,1932, and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 6, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband Al (1999) son Steve (2014) and great-granddaughter Tiffany (2017). Joan is survived by her children Louise (Glenn), Lorraine (Barry), Phil (Denise) and Carrie (Garnett). Mom also leaves 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Joan was born and raised in Victoria, B.C. she attended Cloverdale Elementary School and graduated from Mt. View High School in 1950 after which she met and married Robert Allan Lister. They had five children. The family moved to several towns throughout B.C. following Al’s work in the logging industry. They settled for many years in Powell River and Joan raised the children while working part time at the Powell River Hospital.
Eventually the family moved back to Victoria, where Joan worked at Hudson’s Bay before deciding to return to school to get a degree in nursing. She received her L.P.N. degree and worked at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on the cardiac ward for several years before retiring.
In her retirement, Joan continued her love for education and took many courses at the University of Victoria. She also enjoyed many years travelling to different destinations with her family and her two lifelong friends Marilyn and Margaret. She also shared many laughs and good times with her close friend Helen.
Her biggest source of pride and most favourite place to be was surrounded by her family. Her grandchildren were especially good at sharing her in their lives and with them she was humorous, generous and always up for an adventure. Mom always loved to hear what they had been up to.
Thank you for being a strong, independent role model for all of us.
Forever loved…..
