Where stellar winds past age do blow
And heav'nly spheres do cry
In timeless wonder may you burn
Forever 'cross the sky

My earliest memory of grandma is sitting on a couch together reading a geology book when I was 4 .

She gave me my first fountain pen and blank book as a gift at a young age, starting a lifelong love of writing.

The National Audubon Society books she gave me are on my shelf to this day (especially the ones on insects)--as even as a child, she knew what made me tick.

I have fond memories of learning how to structure and write letters sitting at a desk writing to her.

Her influence on my life has been broad and deep, and is undeniable. I am richer for having had her in my life, and am grateful for the time we had together.

I hold dear my memories of Joan and I from my childhood...Sneaking out of the cottage in the early morning, before the others were awake, we would walk the shore in Port Elgin.

Joan was a special person. She opened my eyes to the absolute beauty of nature, and through her I learned to appreciate it on a whole other level. To hear the sound of the wind in the trees, the birds singing, and waves softly crashing, reminds me of her.

I will always remember her as the warm, kind, and loving soul that she was to me.

Mum and I would often go for walks along the ocean, through Beacon Hill Park or to find a spot for tea and scones. A garden bench was a favourite place to pause and share a story or two.

My Mum spent some of the happiest years of her life in Victoria. How fitting that she completed her life in the place that surrounded her with family, friends, and natural beauty.

She loved the ocean, the Great Lakes and going for swims. Strolling on the sand collecting seashells while having a chat. Cups of warm tea and delicious deserts too.

She loved nature, especially pretty birds, playing games and was sharp with her cards and bowls. She knew her wildflowers and the good spots to pick the best berries. She really loved Victoria, BC, it’s people, events and energy. She was an amazing Grandma and full of unconditional love and caring whose wisdom and joy I will alway treasure. Blessings on your journey Grandma.
