Born and raised in a happy family in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Joan explored Canada via rail and Victoria became her home.
A career in newspaper and radio - at one time hosting the popular “Javex Jill” show - Joan was also executive secretary at BC Ferries inception. Her work with the BC government yielded glowing referrals to Canadian embassies as she set sail for a year abroad in Europe and to pick up her 1963 ivory VW cabriolet which is still on the road today.
Upon retirement, Joan enrolled at the University of Victoria to fulfill her desire to become fluent in French. After graduating top of her class she was awarded the Legion of Honour medal by the French Consulate in Vancouver.
Joan, a consummate chef and loyal patron of Restaurant Matisse, enjoyed hosting many friends and some of Victoria’s finest chefs at her home.
Dogs and birds and all that grows were Joan’s passion.
Rest in peace that passeth all understanding.
