John was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1950 and spent most of his life on the prairies. Always creative in all his endeavors, John’s early working life was in architectural drafting and design and he spent a number of years as the owner of a Home Hardware store in Edmonton. John pursued several art forms during his life - his work with watercolours was preceded by painting with oils and acrylics as a student of Edmonton Art Gallery in the late 60’s early 70’s. He was accomplished in stain glass art and leaded light coloured glass windows as well as wood carving and wood toy art.
John relocated from Alberta to Victoria with his wife Carla and they resided in the Broadmead area where John again began displaying his creativity in the garden and began to paint - this time in watercolour. John’s watercolours included landscapes, flowers, African wildlife, the architectural character of old and forgotten cars and trucks and the features of decay.
A talented artist, painter, woodworker, and architect, he had a vast knowledge of construction that seemed endless. In his later years John contributed this knowledge supporting Thomas & Birch Kitchens & Living.
John was the best husband, Dad, Papa, and friend, and we will all miss him dearly. John was truly a special person and we will miss him immensely.
