Joy was born January 2, 1951in Victoria where she grew up surrounded by a loving extended family. Many of her summers were happily spent with cousins , aunts, and grandmother on Shawnigan Lake.
When she was thirteen she and her mother moved to West Vancouver. There she attended Delbrook High School and went on to start her long career with BC Hydro.
Joy enjoyed her working life. She moved to the west end of Vancouver, met friends, travelled, and continued to take courses, eventually becoming a Human Resources Officer. Joy very much enjoyed being manager of a dragon boat team at Hydro for many years.
Joy always liked meeting people and learning about them. She was generous to her family and friends with her time and money. Joy supported many children overseas through various charities. Being a blood donor was important to Joy and she gave as often as she could.
Joy and Betty had a very close bond. Some of their best times were spent in the Caribou at Green Lake where Betty lived. Joy loved the lake, the social scene and snowmobiling. Betty and Joy hosted many family get together over the years.
Joy eventually bought a townhouse in Richmond BC where she and her mother spent happy years. Yearly trips to Hawaii and Tigh na Mara on the island were highlights. Family, especially her beloved aunts; Dorothy and Joyce, continued to be a big part of their lives.
Joy’s last years were spent back in Victoria, living quietly but contentedly in her own condo. Although needing help with daily tasks, Joy made connections with caregivers, continued to participate in family get togethers and enjoyed her daily routines. The love and sense of humour were still there.
Left to mourn are her close and long time friend Janet Daniel and her seven cousins and their families. Everyone has their special memories of (Aunty) Joy.
