OBITUARY

Juergen Peters

November 22, 1941October 18, 2020

Juergen passed away peacefully on October 18, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret. Juergen was born in Berlin, Germany on November 22, 1941.

He was predeceased by his sister Gitti (Klaus), survived by his sister Edel (Peter) in Berlin. Juergen worked in newspaper production as a schriftsetzer/compositor. His work began with Gutenberg lead type to computer production. He relished the computer challenge and became a trainer of his colleagues in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

A life long athlete, firstly as an amateur boxer in Berlin, taking up scuba diving and tennis in Edmonton and latterly 9 ball billiards. Juergen will always be remembered for his wry wit and that twinkle in his eye as he told a joke, appropriate to the moment.

Thanks to Dr. Reidy and Receptionist Mary for their caring support of Juergen and I. Special thanks to the Staff at the Saanich Peninsula Palliative Hospital for their loving care of Juergen and I during our stay. There will be no service at Juergen’s request. Please go for a bike ride, play a game of tennis, shoot a round of 9-ball and give your loved ones a hug.

Juergen fondly remembered this song from his youth in Berlin, “Aba heidschi Bumbeidschi” a lullaby sung by Englebert Humperdinck. He and his sisters, Gitti and Edel would sing this at family gatherings.

My beloved brother,
hopefully you rest in peace now. But I'm so sad.
I was always grateful to have grown up with two wonderful siblings, Gitti and you. It was very sad, when you left Berlin and us for Canada in 1965. But luckily we never lost touch. When you later came to visit us in Berlin it felt as though you had never left,
our deep connection remained. And it was the same feeling during our many visits to you in Canada.
Thank you for always being so understanding and helpful since your niece and goddaughter Anja was diagnosed with ALS almost 9 years ago.
Love from Anja and Peter
Many thanks to Margaret for having taken such good care of you.

My Brümfelchen, I will always love you
Your Edelchen

There are no words to express our feelings of loss of our dear friend Juergen. He cheered everyone around him, no matter what. We will miss him as will our whole community. Rest in Peace Juergen.

Dear Margaret,

We were very saddened to hear of Juergen's passing. Over the years, we looked forward to his visits to us in the store to receive his teasing and barbs and witty observations about life in general.
His sense of humour and fun made our encounters a source of delight and we will truly miss him. Visits from Juergen were never dull!

You are in our thoughts during this difficult time.
