Mom passed away on Jan 22, 2015 in her 100th year, after a full and active life spent mostly in Toronto, ON, where she enjoyed the support of a large extended family.
She and her 2nd husband Les came to Victoria, B.C. in 1993, where they enjoyed daily walks to the ocean along Dallas Rd.
Mom always loved the Arts – Ballet, the Symphony, and live theatre. She and Les enjoyed 17 years of Lawn Bowling, mostly in N. York, ON.
After a career in the Insurance field, Mom spent her retirement years involved with her church (St. Margaret’s Anglican Church in N. Toronto), as well as volunteering with N. York General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital Thrift Shop in Victoria.
Kay is predeceased by her first husband Frank Douglas (Doug) Simpkins, RCAF in 1941, and by her second husband Leslie A. Lane in 1994. She is also predeceased by her son Barry in 2014, her sisters Marjorie (Dadson) and Elinor (Mullin). She is survived by her sister Mary (Castator) of Napanee, ON, with whom she missed having close contact during the past several years. Kay also leaves behind her daughter Lynne (Don) Johnson of Victoria, daughter-in-law Barb Simpkins of Calgary, her five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
G.G./Auntie Kay will be greatly missed by her large extended family, and all who knew her, for her generosity, high spirits, and ready laughter.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at both Amica at Douglas House, and Glengarry Hospital, for helping to keep Mom comfortable in her later years.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date in Toronto, followed by interment at York Cemetery.
