BRAY Kenneth Scott – Peacefully passed in his 77th year, surrounded by his wife and daughters on Monday June 3, 2024. Beloved husband of Linda for 56 years, proud father of Marlo (Robert) and Rhiannon; beloved “Papa” & “Grandpa” to Nathan, Riley, Logan & Sadie; admired older brother of Wayne, Garth and the late Louise Bray; was loved by his many nieces and nephews; cherished friend and “brother” to Neil Aldous, Bill Dutka, Don Peck and the late Danny D'Aloisio.
Ken was a Professional Firefighter in Toronto, Ontario for 34 years, rising to the rank of District Chief. Ken began his career with the North York Fire Department prior to amalgamation in 1998. He proudly served as President of the North York Professional Firefighters Association and was an active member of Toronto Professional Firefighters Association. He was a mentor to many firefighters, all of whom he considered his family. Ken was part of the Toronto Firefighters Critical Incident Stress Team who assisted with operations at Ground Zero after September 11th 2001. Ken accompanied the families of fallen firefighters as they toured the site, offering them comfort in their time of need. Ken & Linda retired to Victoria, British Columbia where Ken became an active member of the Victoria Fire Department Historical Society, refinishing antique fire trucks and proudly displaying them throughout Victoria.
Ken was an incredible athlete and excelled at hockey, baseball and track & field. Ken played hockey from the ages of 5 to 70 in various mens and Oldtimer’s leagues in Ontario and British Columbia, and had many friends both on and off the ice. Ken was a music aficionado and loved to attend concerts. His favourite bands included Kensington Market, Mandala and of course, The Beatles.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aberdeen Hospital-Lansdowne Unit, for all the wonderful care, support, and understanding that they provided during Ken’s stay. We will always remember the kindness you showed to Ken and our family.
Since Ken was a friend to all animals, big and small; the family asks in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA of your choice.
