March 20, 1950 – February 8, 2024
Lloyd, loving husband to Martha, father to Jennifer and Leanne (John Garnett), and grandfather to Olivia, Taya, Jaydan, and Joshua, went home to be with his beloved Lord and Savior on Thurs, February 8, 2024.
Born to Eric and June on March 20, 1950, in Kelowna, BC, Lloyd was soon joined by three younger sisters, Carol, Sharon (Gary), and Gwen (David). After several years in the Okanagan, the Douglas family moved to the Lower Mainland, where Lloyd completed his high school and went on to obtain a teaching degree from the University of B.C.
Lloyd was an elementary-school teacher librarian by profession, primarily in the Nanaimo/Ladysmith School District. Over his 30-year career, Lloyd made books come alive for students through his love for reading, his laughter at the antics of the characters he loved to read about, and his sock puppets and arm-eating bag which accompanied him to every library.
However, while being a teacher-librarian was his profession, his life was wholly devoted to Jesus Christ and the teaching and living out of gospel truth. Although he pursued formal theological training, achieving his Master of Divinity from ACTS Seminary, he believed that Christians could learn all they needed to know with one another in their churches, as they studied, talked about, and lived out God’s Word day in and day out together.
His devotion to the growth of fellow believers in love for and obedience to God and strengthening of local churches found him involved in various ministries across the years, both at home and around the world, including being an elder, overseeing Sunday School, preaching in church services, leading Bible studies, small groups, and training classes, meeting with people one-to-one, showing warm hospitality, and providing counsel in crisis situations and for everyday life.
And, while we will miss so many things about Lloyd in the days, weeks, and years to come, including his devotion to the Lord, his love of joking and laughter, his curiosity and interest in learning, and his care and compassion for hurting people, we can with confidence know that this is not “Goodbye,” but rather, “We’ll see you later!” as we look forward to walking into heaven one day and joining him face to face with our awesome, kind, and loving God, in whose presence he now securely and joyfully rests.
If you would like to join us to remember Lloyd and celebrate the Lord’s word in his life, a memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Lambrick Park Church, 1780 Feltham Road, Victoria, BC. We also plan to livestream the service and are happy to share the link, if you contact Jennifer at [email protected].
And, in lieu of flowers, we would ask that you consider making a donation in Lloyd’s memory to either the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Nanaimo Society (cpcnanaimo.com) or Overseas Instruction in Counseling (discoveroic.org).
