Lorraine was born in Notikewan, AB and lived on the family homestead until her parents built a house in the town of Manning. She attended the University of Alberta to obtain her qualification as a teacher, and taught elementary school for several years in Grimshaw and Dixonville AB.
She met our dad (Bill Milne), the new CIBC bank manager in Manning, and they married soon after in 1960. Three daughters later, and after several banking moves throughout AB and BC, they finally landed in Victoria, where our dad finished his banking career as the last manager of the historic CIBC Government & Fort St. Branch.
Victoria was mom’s home for 43 years. The family home on Galaxy Place witnessed all the significant events in the lives of our family. Lorraine will be most remembered for her dedication to and love of her family. She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother; her grandchildren were the beneficiaries of an unbreakable bond that will help to sustain them in this time of grief.
Mom is survived by three daughters: Heather Milne-Tilleman (Dale), Holly Milne-Ives (David), Fern Clancy (Mark), five granddaughters, Emily, Hilary, Madison, Abbey and Maggie, and mom’s younger brother, Walter Asmussen (Elsie).
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Lorraine’s life will be held later in April at the University of Victoria.
