Joyce Wick was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, on September 23, 1930, to Fred and Elizabeth (Olson) Robertson. As her father was a mechanical engineer who worked on major projects throughout the Prairies and Ontario, the family moved frequently, finally settling in Winnipeg, where she married John "Jack" L. Wick in April 1950. After several years living in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Jack and Joyce moved to Victoria with their three children (Laurie, Fred and Dawn) in 1963 to join her parents, who arrived in 1955.
Joyce started her working career in the bookkeeping offices of Simpson Sears. She then moved on to run the office at Crane Plumbing Supply in Victoria. She completed her working career with the provincial government's Ministry of Labour for several years to procure and manage the use of official vehicles.
An accomplished athlete all her life, Joyce continued golfing well into her 80s.
Her husband and children all predeceased her, along with her parents, 2 sisters (Marilyn and Claudia) and her brother (Roger).
She is survived by one sister, Shann (Steven) Branting, in Lewiston, Idaho. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Liz Wick of Edmonton, and a son-in-law, Ulf Johansson of Sicamous. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 14 nephews and nieces. To her great-grandchildren, she was "(tall) G-G."
