Margaret Louise Goodwin

Margaret Louise Goodwin (nee Hobkirk), age 96, passed away in Victoria, BC on January 7, 2025 at Victoria General Hospital. She was born in Calgary, Alberta and grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, H. Gordon Goodwin. Margaret is survived by her son, Scott Goodwin, daughter Susan Goodwin Neal (Keith Neal), grandsons Aaron Neal (Kimberly) and Ryan Neal (Morgan), and three great grandchildren, Caleb, Nolan and Ava.

Margaret was devoted to her family, loved to travel and enjoyed cooking for her family. She created a family cook book including family photos and memories. When her grandson, Aaron, was very small, he began asking “is there anything for me?” when he and his mother went to the mailbox. Margaret surprised Aaron with letters containing wonderful stories, just for him and later for his brother, Ryan. The many stories were stored in a drawer through several moves and almost forgotten. Aaron & Ryan are now married with children of their own and when Aaron’s son was born, the stories were brought out again. Margaret and Scott edited the books, Susan created new illustrations and the stories were published. Her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Nolan and Ava continue to read the stories of two little mice named Squeek and Smithers with as much enjoyment as their fathers did. The stories have also provided joy to many children and families in Canada and the US.

There will be a private burial with a celebration of her life in the summer. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the SPCA.
