Marguerite was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She met her future husband, Owen Hine, while he was in the Navy and guarding the farm where she lived during World War 2. The year after the war ended, Marguerite and Owen married in Halifax and moved to Owen’s hometown of Brandon, Manitoba. A few years later, the family moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The family lived there enjoying the outdoor recreation in summer until 1976, when she and Owen retired and moved to Victoria BC.
Marguerite lived a full life. Married for 58 years, with three children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren as well as many friends. Marguerite was always up for an adventure, whether it was moving to Manitoba as a 19-year-old, or moving to New Zealand in 1967 for a short time, or travelling the world well into her 80’s, or riding on the back of a motorbike in her 80’s. Throughout her life, her love for family and friends was always evident. Her faith was a pillar of her life.
Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Owen, in 2004. She is survived by her son David (Heather) in Australia, her daughter Elizabeth (Ron) in Sidney, her son Les (Mary) in Los Angeles, and her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. All were dear to her.
The family will hold a private service and scatter her ashes at sea in the Victoria area and in Australia. The family would like to thank the staff at Glengarry Hospital for the wonderful care that they gave Marguerite during the last years of her life.
Donations in her memory can be made to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Sidney BC. They can be contacted at [email protected]
